German specialty chemicals manufacturer CHT Group has introduced an alternative for brands seeking to move away from potassium permanganate. Following extensive R&D, the company’s 102 Lab, which focuses on the denim sector, has now launched the OrganIQ Seek bleaching system—a formulation based on organic matrices that can replace spot-on potassium permanganate spray bleaching.

OrganIQ Seek can be applied directly after enzymatic or stone-washing treatments for denim. Moreover, garments can be processed in a wet state, eliminating the need for an intermediate drying step, which helps shorten processing time and reduce energy consumption.

For more than a decade, Laboratory 102 has been seeking alternatives to potassium permanganate. In 2015, the company launched OrganIQ Bleach T as an eco-friendly substitute for potassium permanganate, boasting “virtually unrestricted application performance.” Despite its impressive efficacy, the company noted that cost constraints at the time hindered its widespread adoption across the industry.
